Beim Rapid Prototyping handelt es sich um die schnelle Erstellung physischer Modelle mithilfe von CAD-Daten (Computer Aided Design), die eine schnelle Visualisierung, Prüfung und Verfeinerung von Produktideen vor der Serienproduktion ermöglichen. Typischerweise werden 3D-Druck und andere automatisierte Prozesse eingesetzt, um die Designvalidierung zu beschleunigen Prozess optimieren und Entwicklungskosten senken.

Ogni oggetto finito può quindi essere sottoposto al trattamento di verniciatura, cromatura o metallizzazione, oppure passare alla fase di rivestimento in cui vengono utilizzati carbonio, legno o pelle.
